The Evolution of Mucus in the Mouth

All mammals, all vertebrates use mucus in different ways to attach and slide. One of the key musins in our mouth is missing in mouse and rats. Instead, there's another mucin protein, MOOC 10, that evolved independently from a proteins not a mucin. This kind of new mucus evolution happened over and over again, at least 15 times.
