The Intensity of an Eruption

Most volcanoes form at the edges of tectonic plates, those large puzzle pieces that make up the Earth's crust. Most explosive eruptions can come from magma's that have high gas levels and high viscosity. Other eruptions are what's called effusive lava oozes slowly from the volcano. This was the kind of eruption I hiked back to get a closer look at in Iceland.
