The History of Vivisection
Vivisection is the process of dissecting live animals or human beings ostensibly in the interest of scientific discovery. The term was invented in 1709, but the act itself had been taking place for ages. Ancient Greeks do experiments on the optic nerve of live animals to understand sight and blindness. Vivisection becomes more an issue and becomes a critical aspect of science and medicine in the 17th century with the work of Robert Hook and William Harvey.
