What Happened in the Great Depression?

When you get to the great depression in the 19 thirties, you look at what was going on in soviet union. They were forcibly collectivizing all these farms. We didn't go exterminate the cooloks and force them into the cities by starving them. And even if that can be overcome, i think the overall concern is people who are living hand to mouth have a different relationship to their society than somebody who has an ownership stake in it. I'm not saying we shouldn't do those things under certain circumstances,. but there's no way of fixing something like unemployment or universal basic income without some kind of economic stimulus.
