Mutations Happen in All Organisms
Mutations are genetic changes, which can affect the way genes are read into proteins. For bacteria, depending on the type of bacteria, if we take a bacteria that penicillin kills off like pseudomonas, they double every hour. So it does not take very long for a mutation within a single bacterium to spread throughout the entire colony.
