Regan's Boundless Optimism Has Had Its Day in the Line of History
i think we lose a lot of the complexities around ronald regan and around reganism, in large part because regan and his mythology loom so large. When he was in office, the rights relationship with him was far more ambiguous than the kind of sainted regan of lore that we now are familiar with. But when you actually go back to that period, many people on the right were far more embivolent. I think for some on the right, they thought regan being elected would be the big bang, right? That just changes everything, kind of like that. He was one of their own, and things were going to change.
