I think he's hardly atypical in that sense of the average Britain I would say and again it goes back to this idea of divine election they are human and they have the same faults as everyone else. The monarchy has is very very old and you change that kind of thing at your peril as we discovered in the 1650s. Although now rather than an abdication we've got a de force man marrying a divorced woman well we're rather forgiving.
