Engaging Students in Doing and Reading and Writing

Susan: The idea of engaging students in doing and talking and reading and writing won't sound revolutionary to many, as those are the modalities that you will see in an elementary classroom over the course of a day. What we mean by du talk, readwright is that for each important science idea or phenomenon, students have an opportunity to engage with that science phenomenon through do a gathering first hand evidence, through talking, student to student, talk, through reading, through writing. This approach gives students multiple at bats where they have the opportunity to engage multiple times with that same scientific phenomenon. We're allowing them to gain deeper expertis, even become expert about a particular topic area.
