16-year-old betty robinson joined the illinois women's athletic club. She soon broke her first world record, though a too strong wind would keep it off the books. Not even a year into her career as a four reel runner, on to the olympic trials,. where she doesn't win, but she is plenty fast enough to qualify. And then she is on an ocean liner bound for amsterdam and meets people from all over the country. At lunch, the games begin, and the americans start losing.
