Is Plato to Blame for the Totalitarian Visions of 20th Century Regimes?
Is Plato to blame for the totalitarian visions of 20th century regimes and is Plato utopian? I find it kind of strange that we always want to dredge up people's corpses to morally charge them with the deaths of people centuries after they lived. But perhaps ironically, I think ironic given Popper's position, I think the Republic itself advances the argument that works of poetry or literature could be dangerous to the harmony or unity of society. The strongest argument against this is that the discussion begins and ends with an ethical grounding.
