As a young man Michelangelo could not seem to shake either his faith or his carnal pursuits. He was yearning for glory while at the same time consuming corruption with an insatiable hunger. His artistic preferences were a matter for him of conviction. Human beauty, I'm sorry, is as presented in his work as a reflection of divine beauty. Its contemplation leads the soul inexorably toward God.
