If there's a focus on a metric, you will like people in those companies tend to optimize for whatever metric they're being judged for. And if that metric is not necessarily tied to the goal, then they're just going to like they don't have a view of the full system. I think there was a part in this book where they were talking about how purchasing bought because their goal was to buy like materials for as low of a cost as possible.
