Machiavelli has a rare accolade amongst philosophers, which is that he's an adjective. Machiavellian means just duplicitous or only concerned with power. He was one of the first ever writers whose opera, Omnia, were placed on the list of books in 1559. John Milton wrote propaganda for the English Republic by reading his discourses. The American revolution also had a clear Machiavellic element to it.
