The History of Japan's Westernization
Daimyo were prompted to spontaneously return their domains to Damber, at which point the government was reorganized into a Western bureaucracy. As part of this plan, the government decided to clarify its somewhat murky foothold on the Ryukyu Islands and Hokkaido in the north. Realization took the form of abolishing the Daijokan and the Jinkicon, as well as the Domain System.
