The Romantic Ideal of Monogamy
Tristan and his old amith is one of the classic stories that comes out of the courtly love myth. It shows two star crossed lovers who find shelter in a cave and passionately explore their love before meeting their tragic deaths. An important element of this courtly love ideal, which I think is more or less the way we still see love today, is that this love is all consuming.
