Is There a Time at Which There's No Awareness?

I have a trouble bridging the gap there to there's never a time at which there's no awareness. I don't know why awareness couldn't also come and go, like everything else. If you're going to base your model of reality on a completely underifiable belief, then everything downstream of that belief is going to be founded on the same uncertainty. Why not start with something that you are certain of and build a model of reality from that?
