The Frankfurt School is a term that people use to refer to this collection of thinkers, most of them German Jews who gathered around a new institute called the Institute for Social Social in Frankfurt. Myra Ben-Ghiat: We're dealing with what I think a more critical psychoanalytic eye or critical critical theory eye would talk about  in terms of registers of knowledge or power or desire or fantasy and disillusionment. She says we've all been living through a sort of chaotic and bewildering political time for the past 10 years.
