The ancients included and recruited many men of lower social status. They didn't have the same sort of prodigious, gentlemanly rance that most modern lodges tended to take on with exceptions. The ancient masonry also spreads and competes abroad in the colonies. And this helps to further spur and accelerate the growth and organization of freemasonry.
