We Know Something Exists if It Appears in Our Best Explanations
We cannot know the final laws of physics, final ultimate knowledge about everything. We won't get there. So instead, we have to interpret existence as being about the contents of our best current explanations. It's not an infallible criteria when we're talking about existence. And i think that a you typical scientist, the further get away from theoretical physics, they tend to be realists about their own field. I've never heard him deny the fact that squid exists. He studies squid. On the other hand, the theoretical physicist does tend to deny the reality of what things like the shredding a wave equation tell us about reality.
