I was flabbergasted at the insights Robert McKee gave me about storytelling because there's novalless you don't hear this stuff. Drama writers where lips with a scream or a stage understand story much better than novelists do as far as I can make out. And so once I understood that stories were really about this one thing which is like a DNA strand too into into into linked as it were strands that the double helix I call it. Once you get to the heart of those things you really learn all that you can learn about writing a novel.
