Are You a Main Character in a Novel?

I think that the way that it might get colloquially used is kind of this main character who kind of can violate the norms of society. I feel like that's a very narrow way of defining when main character is. But how I developed it was probably from not having a lot of friends growing up and reading a lot to where I didn't have that like reader thing, right?
