I decided to go variable prime minus 1.4 for a mortgage rate of 1.05%. For 2021 and a good chunk of 2022, I paid off a lot of principal on our home. But then the rates started to rise really quickly. We didn't think that was going to happen. Our experience is that investing in the markets works. So even though sometimes the result is not what you want, these decisions are not necessarily irrational.
