The Importance of Slavery in Cotton Production
Slavery is abolished in the United States in 1865. After that, cotton manufacturers all over Europe are worried about where to get raw cotton. They're increasingly focusing on South Asia and especially on India. The colonial power has been pushed much more into the Indian hinterland thanks to railroads or telegraphs.
