Are You Trying to Cure Someone's Autism?
I think there's this idea when you talk about something like a diagnosis or a disability or, and I think we're trying to move past some of that language. But for those that are autistic, do you find that they do live in a state of pain or distress? And therefore, that's this idea that it needs to be treated in a way. What are your thoughts on that? Well, I'm in sympathy with the autistic self advocates who say that trying to cure somebody's autism is very much as psychiatrists might have tried to cure people's homosexuality. Autism is part of who they are. And it's not a disease. It's a different way of being.
