It also seems to be as bad as so many thinkers are, that sometimes the originators of useful concepts were perfectly aware of the imitations of their theory. Einstein was like this. He called his own theory potentially a castle in the sky. My favorite example is the inventor of imaginary numbers, the square wood of negative one. And he used the term, this is a useful fiction.
