Why Do Sloths Have Long Nails?

Long nails are probably because it helps them climb, you know, they're able to grip really well with that. They have special tendons in their fingers and toes that allow them to hang without exerting any energy. Some of the new threats facing sloths are caused by humans. Sloths don't have defenses against unnatural predators.
