What Is Hagg Horror?

The term hagg horror is one that has been coined in recent years to describe a group of films that were made in the 60s and 70s. They have certain similar veins that run through them such as older women who is single, either doesn't have children or if she does, she's a bad mother or they've died. She's usually living alone in a creepy old house and that house is a symbol of her mental deterioration. Why did this kind of film reemerge? I think it was like a warning to young women about what will happen if you don't get married... You'll end up like one of these tragic ladies.
