Is There a Trade Off Between Expert and Mixed Approach?

This notion of combining a large model with the knowledge base or database of some kind is this researchy? Or are you aware of some production commercial where they made consciously made a choice? Okay, so this is good enough to use. Well, I'm not the big expert on what commercial products use. Most of these companies don't are not happy to share exactly the architecture that they use.
