Henry Clay Frick's Resignation

During an 1877 strike that disrupted the shipment of coal and coke to his company, Frick accompanied a sheriff's deputy to help evict a striker who lived on a shack on the property. He was incensed by the interference of labor organizers and unions in what he considered a process properly left to the discretion of the owners of the company.
