The Neo-Gramarian Hypothesis

The Neo-Gramarian hypothesis is that if you're making your sound changes by hand, then you lose the benefit of doing this in the first place. There are things that can take particular kinds of words, important words that might be slowed down for this or that reason. By and large, the vast majority of your day-to-day working language, the changes will be consistent and universal.
