Sickle Cell Disease and Pregnancy
Pregnant patients with sickle cell disease will probably experience an acute chest syndrome, a crisis or event during pregnancy. They often are at risk scores for cerebral vascular accidents and already have had a CVA so they have preexisting neurologic deficits. These patients definitely should be managed by a multidisciplinary team including hematologists, maternal fetal medicine, possibly adult ICU teams if they're admitted to the ICU.
