What people say is assumed to be more casually uttered than what they actually write. The written word by its nature addresses the world, not an individual. As a culture moves from orality to writing to printing and televising ideas of truth move with it. Truth does not and never has come adored but it must appear in its proper clothing or it's not acknowledged.
