Quantum entanglement is used in all kinds of technologies because it's a real thing and it's useful. What the spooky action at a distance means is that you could have photons or electrons tatter, separate in space time, that still have properties that are somehow connected, at least correlated. It took forty or 50 years for experimental methods to be devised and tested to show that that is actually true.
