The world is going to divide between those which are just cognitively conscious and those which in addition are sentient. If we can pin down the purpose of each sensation, that can help us to study phenomenal consciousness. We should always realize that when we are talking about human patients with blind sight, all except one of them is only blind in half their visual field. There's just one patient who's been cited for a few years now, he's called TM,. He has damaged both sides of the visual cortex, rather like the monkey.
