Trotsky, zenovia and camanet still had enormous influence in moral authority. But by 19 26, stalwan had stacked the deck of the party so adroitly that it probably didn't matter how well they played their hand, they were going to lose. And this opposition, too, was not a bunch of scrubs. A good number of the most pre eminent old bolsheviks joined them.
