The Battle of Kios

Spartan commander Halkidius and Alsabiety sailed out from Laconia with a small squadron of five ships to Kios. These ships were detected by the Athenians, who chased after them but could not catch up. Although they lost one vessel in the struggle, the other 15 Peloponnesian ships managed to sail safely into Corinth. Afterwards, Alsabayides sailed three of his five ships over to Aerothry and Clizominai, and these cities revolted too. And so, with only a tiny fleet and brilliant chakonery, he succeeded in gaining 60 warships, a safe base of operations, and the first critical defect
