And further to this, in the surrounding area of all of these megalithic monuments on orkney are chambered tombs,. barrows, carns and mounds standing stones. We cannot talk about standing stones without looking at the carnak stones of brittany, in modern day france. Carna is astonishing for the fact that it is the most dens collection of megalits in one place but it has a character all of its own.
