In the seventies, people saw some clues about gravitational waves. And now we have other observatories to listen for these gravitation waves. But gravity is so weak that in order to see these things, you need a big gravitational wave. Things like two black holes swirling around each other and then merging and eating each other generates a lot of gravitational wave energy. That's the kind of thing that we can just barely see here on earth.
