The Holy See Lobbying for Bishop Alvarez
Bishop Alvarez of Matagalpa was sentenced to 26 years in prison for effectively being a Catholic and being open about that in Nicaragua. He's been in prison since February; he would get on a plane and leave the country, as many other clerics have done. The Holy See lobbied through back channels or third parties to get the Nicaraguan government to let him out of prison so that he could go to the Vatican City State.
