The Shadow Self and the Atheist in the Film

"I try to look at this from the eyes of a child," says director Guillermo del Toro. "The opening scene right away has these small little adjustments in the film that you can see that leave big messages" Del Toro is an atheist, but he doesn't really disclose his ideologies and whatnot. He said when I was a kid, this is a story I would go back to over and over and over again with my mother.
