Huxley's famous experiment with mesculine and water. He hoped it would give him some insight into the world around him. But he was a poor visualizer, so didn't really get what he wanted. The book that he wrote about it, and later one, heaven and hell, were extremely successful. And many of hus novels are not read much any more.
