Where Did Spending Cuts Fall?
In 2010, the coalition government decided that they would mostly fill it through spending cuts. So there were various large areas of spending that were relatively protected. Another one was day-to-day spending on schools and pensioner benefits. And that meant that the other areas of spending have much, much larger than average cuts. Those fell on benefits for the working age population. They fell on departments like the Home Office, Ministry of Justice,. Current Spending on Transport, Department for Work and Pensions.
