Pitahan is a tonal language so using humming in place of whispering is a much better trade-off. How do consonants work by the way I believe the one paper I was looking at that you linked is like it's transients in between vowels usually? Yes and everybody is lossy in consonants to some degree or another either you completely eliminate it or you preserve some distinction not all of it.
