Unrequited love is somewhat glorified by our society in kind of an unnecessary way. I think the romanticization of unrequited love also relates greatly to our glorification of things that are beautiful, particularly art. We have this preconception or idea that pain lends itself so fully to creative expression and feeling human like few other emotional experiences let us do. The absence of love is such a moving experience that we must glorify it because of what it produces artistically and creatively.
