The Rise and Fall of Walter Riley
Walter Riley was a mariner in the same context, but his emphasis was more on settlement. His way of dealing with the Spanish was to establish English colonies in the Americas that could then be used as a trading post. And we all know about his Phil Roanoke colony of 1585. There have been no end of speculation about what happened to his settlers there. They disappeared without a trace on the coast of North America.
