The Major Misconceptions About Attachment

There are so many misconceptions about attachment, and I really can't think of anyone better to help unpack that. So when we say an infant is securely attached, that's actually shorthand for saying this infant has a secure relationship with this partner. If a caregiver in the first year of life is not responsive to the infant, they may well be anxious in their attachment. But if circumstances change, supports, increase for that caregiver, they're in a better place. They become more responsive. That infant, when you see them six months later, may be secure in their attachments. We'll get to that one about our attachments just with mothers.
