Avoidance Can Actually Make Problems Grow
avoidance is often the root of many, if not probably most, psychological disorders. And it's kind of what maintains those disorders. For example, anxiety, PTSD, oftentimes it's the avoidance of the feared outcome that causes you to push it away or not think about it. That can kind of make the fear actually grow. So we are not telling you to use these skills. However, sometimes it is effective to avoid the really, really high distress in order,. just for that moment until you can kind of calm down to the point where you can then use another skill.
