Acute Colostal Status: How to Diagnose and Treat It
Most cases of acute colostal status are sterile, but there is definitely a risk of having a coexisting bacterial infection and we want to cover gram negative rods and anaerobes. Some options include paparicillin, tasylbactam, which is zosin because that covers both gram negative rod and anaerobe. And typically you're doing these antibiotics up until you get source control, which will be when you remove the gallbladder with the help of surgery. The one exception is if they're actually septic, you then will extend the antibiotic course even after the gall Bladder is removed.
