Pension funds in Europe and Japan are hedging the exchange rate risk of all of their holdings of US equity and US bonds by so-called FX swaps. The amount of dollar liquidity available to the rest of the world shrinks fast enough to bring the pace of the dollar appreciation to an elevated level.
