We need to think about identity as a series of buckets that we each fill with different items. These include things like personal history and life experiences. This is the one that's most stable. It's the hardest to change, although I would say our interpretation of our life experiences may be altered. Then we have things such as our values and beliefs, such as creativity and honesty and generosity. And finally, accessories, which I kind of like to call extras. They are the ways we present or express the other core components of our identity. Things that are quite external. So I would say things like physical appearance, how we dress, what kind of music we like,. Just those small added bonuses
